Truly “to live is Christ” means becoming what we already are.
Learning to live by the indwelling life of Christ.
Truly “to live is Christ” means becoming what we already are.
“To live is Christ” is to be reconciled to God by his justifying work. But beyond this, it is to spread the message of reconciliation that flows from God through each of us united to Christ. It is a hard work, the work of the cross, the work of dying to self as both the messenger and the one receiving the message.
“To live is Christ” unites us to Christ as the future new creation right now. All of our sin is removed and all of our hopes are realized by our union with Christ. The victory is won! And yet the battle of the new creation rages in each of us. The battle that can be won daily as we live by faith and trust in who and what we are in Christ.
“To live is Christ” is to both be loved by Christ (he died for all) and to love Christ (we live for him). It is to let Christ control you so that you know longer have to live for yourself. It is giving up control of your own life, and replacing it with the controlling force of God’s pure and powerful love for you.
“To live is Christ” is this same hiddenness of God. His glory is hidden in our shame. Our weakness. Our sacrifice. Our folly. Our light and momentary affliction. Our messed up life. Our cross.
“To live is Christ” is to live simultaneously in suffering and glory. The glory of God’s grace found in the cruciform life. Knowing that living this cruciform life today prepares for us an experience of grace in the presence of Christ beyond any light or momentary affliction we are going through today.
