That’s what advent is – the arrival of Christ as the arrival of man’s destiny.
Learning to live by the indwelling life of Christ.
That’s what advent is – the arrival of Christ as the arrival of man’s destiny.
God’s sin destroying holiness was lifted up in the holy Christ who became our sin in order to destroy sin in us once and for all.
Our union with Christ’s death and resurrection means we will never die. And beyond this, we will live forever in the power of the Spirit of Christ. Christ’s ascension into heaven, like Elijah’s, released the Spirit upon the church. Now we are all Elishas. We are all the receivers of the double portion of Christ. All that is his is ours.
How do we know that God is rescuing us? Because one day another angelic advent will occur. God will ride down on his cherub again. This time visible to the whole world. Smoke from his nostrils and fire from his mouth. And all the world will see him. No more veil of darkness. Just light.
One thousand years later the Angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven will put his sword in his sheath and he will leave heaven to enter earth. Not to demand a sacrifice, but to BE the sacrifice.
Yes, advents always begin in darkness, but God never lets them stay there. He always shines a light. Samson. Jesus. You. Me. We are the light of God in this world of darkness shining the light of self-sacrifice through the life and light of Christ in us.
