Proverbs 1:28. Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
The “me” in this verse is Wisdom. All throughout Proverbs Wisdom will be personified. Here is Wisdom is ignoring the one who comes to her too late. When we reject Wisdom over and over again, there will come a time when she won’t be able to help us. It will be too late. I will not answer. You will not find me.
Have you ever ignored God’s wisdom? Maybe you heard a sermon, knew God was speaking to your heart but just went home and watched football instead of dealing with God. Maybe you are actively doing things, chasing things, holding on to things that you know are not wise. Habits. Addictions. Mindsets. Grudges. This is the end of the path. You’ve finally reached the point where there is no turning around. The damage is irreparable; the bridge is burned.
If this principle is true in earthly things, how much more so with spiritual things?
Isaiah 55:6-7. 6“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; 7let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Jesus is God’s true Wisdom who says to us, Ask. Seek. Knock. I’m here. I’m listening. Call on me and I will answer, seek me diligently and you will find me. This is the promise of our union with Christ – there will never come a time when Christ is not near. There will never be a day when Wisdom is no longer available. Yes, there may be days (lots of them) where we don’t call and don’t seek. But just turn around, and you’ll find Wisdom standing there with his arms wide open.
You: Where do you search for wisdom? Friends? Family? News reports? Favorite preachers? Self-help books?
You in Christ: In Christ, the bridge is never burned with God. How can this compel you to seek him today?
Christ in you: How does Christ’s love in you strengthen you to make a u-turn on that unwise path you’re on? What new choice do you need to start making today as you seek Wisdom?
Pray: Father, I don’t want to be stubborn. Help me to always call on Christ and seek Christ and the wisdom of his cross. Amen.
Amen! I seek God for everything, especially wisdom. His love in me brings me strength every second of the days granted, so that I can keep pressing on in Jesus Name!!
Blessed Morning. (Good questions)
