TLIC Psalms. May 31. Awesome is God from His Sanctuary.

Read Psalm 68:32-35.  32O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, 33to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. 34Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. 35Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!

The psalm began on the lips of Israel alone, but it ends on the lips of all the earth – O kingdoms of the earth sing to God. The personal God of Israel is the God of the heavens, whose power is in the sky. From his heavenly sanctuary, to his earthly temple in Jerusalem, and now to the hearts of his church, the procession of Christ from the ancient heavens to dwell in us has placed the very power of God into his people. A power that the Apostle Paul prayed that we would experience in Christ:

Ephesians 3:14-19. 14For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Christian, the power of the risen Christ dwells in you. The power of the One who rides in the heavens. Awesome is God from his sanctuary – and that sanctuary is you; it is us. But in Christ the awesome power of God is always displayed in weakness, in humility, in sacrifice, in submission. In love.

Are you trusting that Christ’s love, love that would give everything, is the greatest power on earth? Are you experiencing this love of Christ daily? Are you displaying the awesome power of God in your weakness? Your sacrifice?

To live is Christ is to trust the power of God in the love of Christ.

Prayer. Jesus, you want to show your awesome power through me. Through my faith. Through my love. Strengthen me from the inside out by your Spirit. Amen.
