TLIC Psalms. May 20. Awesome Deeds.

Read Psalm 65:5-8.  5By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas; 6the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might; 7who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples, 8so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs. You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

Everything God does is righteous. Every action. Every inaction. Every word spoken. Every deed performed. Every answer to prayer. God’s righteousness is not merely passive or reactive. It is dynamic. It is active. It rights wrongs. It lifts up. It puts down. It restores. It destroys.

It is not only God’s creation that reveals his righteousness, the unmovable mountains, the tempestuous seas, the rising and setting sun, beyond these God’s righteousness is revealed in his awesome deeds. If the stormy sea reveals God’s righteous judgment, how much more our Savior’s calming of that sea and with it the hearts of his disciples in the boat?

But Jesus’ most awesome deed was not controlling the creation, or even the act of creating itself. His most awesome deed was saving you and me, placing his own righteousness into our wicked hearts transforming us into his likeness forever. Mountains, oceans, and sunsets are awesome. But a sinner saved by grace is what the ends of the earth will stand in awe of one day. And to live is Christ is what will change a heart today.

Prayer. Jesus, your creation reveals your righteousness, how much more your new creation in my life. Use me to bring others to awe in your grace as they see it alive in me. Amen.
