TLIC Psalms. March 12. Your Steadfast Love.

Read Psalm 36:5-12. 5Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord. 7How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. 10Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! 11Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise.

Psalm 36 opened with a diagnosis of man’s deeply sinful heart. The flattering, deceiving, plotting nature of sin threatens to undo us at every turn. What is the cure? The steadfast love of God.

David sees God’s love as a world to explore. God’s covenant love is sky, it is mountain, it is sea. It is high, wide, and deep. It is refuge and feast. Strong yet welcoming. It is a river of delight. It is light exposing light. God’s perfect love is our Eden. Our home. Our universe.

Do you live and thrive in this world of God’s love? Are you climbing its mountain? Sailing its sea? Soaring in its clouds? Drinking its delights? Feasting upon its banquet? Resting in its shade?

In Christ you live in God’s garden of unconditional love. In him the love and faithfulness of God is yours just as it was David’s and is Jesus’. Don’t just stand there. Start exploring. Start enjoying. Stop living like your stuck in the desert. Stop your navel gazing at your sins and struggles. Look around in your heart. It too is full of God’s love just like the creation around you. God’s love for you is an adventure that awaits. May the Spirit guide you to discover the breadth, and length, and height, and depth of God’s love for you in Christ (Eph. 3:18).

To live is Christ is to live in the garden of God’s love. His light, his delight, his joy, his righteousness, his truth.

Prayer. Jesus, lately I’ve been stuck. Stuck in my own self-indulgent pity, fear, and boredom. I’m ready for the adventure of knowing and trusting your love! Amen.
