Read Psalm 33:10-17. 10The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! 13The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; 14from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, 15he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. 16The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
God is not a faraway creator watching us “from a distance” as the song says. Rather, he is sovereignly active in both the big and the small. He frustrates nations, and he fashions every heart of man. No one and nothing escapes the eyes of the Lord. He literally sees and controls everything for our good and his glory.
Do you ever think that your life is hidden from God? Do you sometimes think that God is ignoring you, forgetting you, or too busy for you? He’s not. God’s knowledge of you is perfect. His control over your life is also perfect. And his love is the prevailing force of the world that nothing can stand against. No great army. No war horse. No warrior. In fact, God actually uses the great “powers” of this earth to display his greater power of self-sacrificing grace. The Roman war machine that crucified Christ was actually being over powered by the love and justice of God in the cross of Christ.
Can you see this truth in your own life? That the power that appear to be destroying you are doing no such thing. God’s spirit infused love inside of you is winning. Not hate. Not oppression. Not absence. Not ignorance. Not him. Not her. Not them. Not the system. Not the world. Not the Devil. God is actively defeating them all right now as he uses everything in your life to fashion your heart into his own, and make you his chosen heritage. Do you believe this?
To live is Christ is to live a life free from fear of man, for God in Christ has poured his salvation into your heart. A heart he is creating in his own likeness in a world that he is controlling for is glory.
Prayer. Jesus, I have put my hope in the powers of this world, and at the same time I have been afraid of those same powers. Help me to trust in you alone. Amen.
