TLIC Psalms. February 12. King of Glory.

Read Psalm 24:7-10. 7Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! 9Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

When David conquered the ancient city of Salem, and made it his royal city, this may have been the song that was sung as he ascended to the heights of Zion to take the throne. And yet, as usual, when the people are asked to identify the King of Glory, it is not David. Rather it is the Lord strong and mighty. The Lord of hosts. Yahweh, mighty in battle. A title given to God by Moses after the Red Sea crossing.

Jesus is our victorious king today. He is the King of Glory. Strong to save. Mighty in battle. The Lord of hosts. The lifter of our heads. How? By his triumph over sin and death for us in the great spiritual battle fought on the cross and in the tomb.

This is the spiritual battle that every Christian is still fighting today.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5. 4For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

The gates (a figure of speech for rulers) of our minds must submit daily to the King of Glory. The Lord of our hearts. Jesus indwells us in order to make this possible – the pulling down of every stronghold in our souls that would resists the ruling glory of Christ. Strongholds of fear and doubt. Strongholds of selfishness and pride. Strongholds of compromise and control. Strongholds of tradition and legalism. Strongholds of avoidance and addiction.

Lift up your head O weary Christian. Let the King of Glory rule your heart today with the might of his love and grace.

To live is Christ is to allow your life to be ruled by the glory of Jesus. His majesty. His beauty. His love. His purity. His worth.

Prayer. Jesus, come in. I turn the rule of my heart over to you. Pull down any stronghold of my life that resists your reign. Amen.
