June 15-16. From the Archives: Letter v Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:6. [God] has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Letter. Law. Death. Bad news.

Spirit. Grace. Zoe. Good news.

Letter. Control. Feelings. Satiation. Apathy. Appeasement. Inferiority. Superiority. Fear. Willpower.

Spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self Control.

Letter. On tablets of stone. Outside your heart. Striving and failing.

Spirit. Re-writes the heart’s desire. Inside out. Resting and receiving first, striving second.

Letter. Moses. Old Covenant. Blessed for obedience. Cursed for disobedience.

Spirit. Jesus. New Covenant. His blessing by grace. Our curse removed.

Letter. Perfect. Never satisfied. Empowering sin.

Spirit. Perfect. Completely satisfied. Empowering faith.

Letter. Condemnation. Guilt. Shame. Enmity. Hiding from God.

Spirit. Forgiveness. Freedom. Honor. Reconciliation. Access to the throne.

Letter. Demands righteousness. Reveals unrighteousness.

Spirit. Demands righteousness. Imputes Christ’s righteousness.

Letter. To live is self.

Spirit. To live is Christ.

Are you experiencing death by law? Or are you living in the life of the Spirit? How does union with Christ satisfy the law while empowering the love that the law requires?
