Revelation 1:7-8. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Not everyone saw Jesus at his first coming. On that first Christmas morning only a few people were witnesses. Mary and Joseph and maybe the immediate family in the house. Some shepherds. Even if we include the wise men, those who saw him physically is still quite a small group compared to the whole world’s population.
But the Advent that we wait for is the coming of Jesus that all on earth will see. Every eye will see him. The Jews – those who pierced him, and the Gentiles – all tribes of the earth. Every person will finally see the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. The One who is and was and is to come.
Are you more excited about seeing Santa than you are about seeing Christ?
My prayer is that these Advent devotionals have helped you to see not only the Christ who came, but the Christ who is to come. To see him before you see him. The Cosmic Christ. The eternal One who will once again enter time and space, returning physically to judge the earth and establish his kingdom on the earth forever and ever.
Have you seen him? Have you only seen the baby version of Christ? Or have you seen the returning Savior King? The judge?
Have you seen his destruction of darkness? Have you seen his love? Have you seen his life? Have you received his life? Are you experiencing “to live is Christ?”
There’s no better day than Christmas day to see and receive the life of Christ and make it your own. Merry Christmas.
