Learning to live by the indwelling life of Christ.
To live is Christ is to cry out day and night to the God who sees and hears, even when the darkness inside of us tries to say that he doesn’t. It is to come honestly to God with all our pain and all our doubt trusting the one who walked through the darkest valley before us.
To live is Christ means we are already citizens of the New Jerusalem, the heavenly Zion. We are the singers and dancers who declare all my springs are in you, Jesus. All my joy flows from knowing and trusting you. And it means all enmity has been destroyed as even historic enemies now worship together in the city that takes form anywhere those in Christ gather.
To live is Christ is to know this great sign, this great power toward us who believe. The resurrection power that lives in us, allowing us to self-examine in times of trouble, rather than beg for a change of situation.
To live is Christ is choosing to recognize and receive the lordship of Christ over your life. To say to Christ today, teach me your ways, unite my heart to fear your name. And then to do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, until we see him face to face.
To live is Christ binds our life to Christ’s in such a way that it is always reasonable to ask for the gladness of the soul that comes from God’s grace and love.
To live is Christ is to live with all the fullness of God. The fullness of his truth joined by the fullness of his love. The fullness of his righteousness kissing the fullness of his peace. Yes, we can be honest and caring at the same time. We can call pursue righteousness and pursue peace at the same time. We can and we must by his grace.
