Learning to live by the indwelling life of Christ.
“To live is Christ” tells us two important truths about our love. It is a brotherly love. It should feel normal and natural to love others. Love is born into us. And it is also being “taught to us” by God himself. The Holy Spirit. Christ in us. The Trinity’s love for one another teaching us what our love can and should look like in our churches, homes, communities, and beyond.
Are you experiencing the power of Christ by the Holy Spirit? Are you patient in hope, worshiping from faith, and laboring in love for others? Only the gospel can empower such living. Only our union with Christ can provide the hope needed for this kind of power. Resurrection power. The power of “to live is Christ.”
“To live is Christ” is made possible by the indwelling Holy Spirit. He is the giver of Christ’s peace, love, and joy to all who are in Christ by faith.
“To live is Christ” means there is no greater joy than to be loved and to love. To be elevated so high by the love of the Father, that it frees you to lower yourself for the sake of others. And thus live as the friends of Christ.
“To live is Christ” means that we abide in Christ and Christ abides in us forever. Now apart from him we can do nothing. And that is good news! Because it means that in him we can do all things. All believing, all loving, all giving, all sharing, all hoping, all fruit born out of the life of Jesus in us.
“To live is Christ” means love for God and love for neighbor now has a power source. The indwelling love of Jesus that fills us with all of his self-giving love so that we may now go out in the knowledge and faith in that same self-giving love and then love one another. Now our duty is our delight. The command is our comfort. The more we know how much we are loved by God, the more we can’t wait to love God and love neighbor from the pure heart that our Love has poured into us.
