As we think about the birth of Christ, may we remember that that humble baby in a manger is the lord of our lives who guides our hearts to follow God in his same humble submission. The humility of Josiah, the humility of Christ, now the humility that we share in him.
Like Nathan before him, it is the name of Jesus that reminds us of all of our sin and all of God’s grace at the same time. It is the name of Jesus that will save his family, you and me, from our sins.
“To live is Christ” is exaltation and glory by God but only through our humility and dependence on Christ. May Christ’s humble heart for us humble our own hearts for him.
“To live is Christ” is to experience the fullness of God in Christ, the fullness freely given to us by Christ’s own emptying, so that then we can, like Jesus, empty our lives out in humility and grace for the glory of God and the good of others.
