TLIC Psalms. December 6. Dwell in Unity.

Read Psalm 133:1-3 1Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

David celebrates the rich fellowship that the nation of Israel experienced together in the seasons of the festivals. Twelve tribes spanning from north to south, from Hermon to Zion, gathering in Jerusalem, despite differences, to experience the presence and forgiveness of God together.

How much more do we share this unity in Christ? Our union with Christ should naturally overflow as our unity with one another. The brotherhood that the Israelites had naturally, we have supernaturally. The worship that brought the Israelites together, brings us together too. The precious oil of the Holy Spirit running down covering the entire priesthood, the church.

Such unity is Christ’s gift to us, his blessing, received not achieved. And yet we must strive to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph. 4:3). How? By always remembering all that unifies us:

Ephesians 4:4-6. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

To live is Christ is never an isolating experience. It is a unifying power in our lives that draws us to one another in love and faith. Oh, how good and pleasant that unity is.

You: In what ways do you experience unity with other believers?

You in Christ: How does our union with Christ make our unity with other Christians good and pleasant?

Christ in you: How can you pursue unity in your church? Be specific.

Pray: Jesus, I am united to you and to all who are in you. Give me your eagerness to maintain this unity. Amen.
