TLIC Psalms. December 5. A Horn, a Lamp, a Crown.

Read Psalm 132:11-18 11Remember, The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. 12If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” 13For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: 14“This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. 15I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. 16Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. 17There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. 18His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.”

Here the prayer of verse 10 is answered. Do not turn away the face of your anointed one is the prayer, i.e., do not forget the king of Judah. God’s answer is overflowing: a horn, a lamp, and a crown are given to the Lord’s anointed. Power. Wisdom. Honor. This is the promise The Lord made to David, and there is absolutely no chance of God breaking it.

This is especially true when we recall that our Lord Jesus is the anointed offspring of David. The son of his body. In fact, Jesus is the only son of David that fully kept the Lord’s covenant and testimonies. Because of Jesus’ faithfulness Zion is his resting place. Spiritual Zion, the church? Absolutely. Earthly Zion, Jerusalem? Yes, one day. The New Jerusalem will descend bringing Heaven to Earth and the anointed Son of David, the Son of God will receive his horn, his lamp, his crown.

All glory, honor, and praise will be his forevermore.

Revelation 5:13. And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

To live is Christ means Jesus has shared his horn (power), lamp (wisdom), and crown (honor) with us. As his king-priests on Earth today, we are clothed in his salvation, shouting with joy the goodness of his covenant love.

You: Do you live as though you have the power, wisdom, and honor of Christ? Why not?

You in Christ: How does union with Christ give us his same power, wisdom, and honor?

Christ in you: How specifically can you cast off shame and shine in the honor of Christ?

Pray: Jesus, as your priest I wear your salvation. Your horn. Your lamp. Your crown. May I never forget who I am in you. Amen.
