TLIC Psalms. August 17. Sprout Like Grass.

Read Psalm 92:5-9.  5How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! 6The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: 7that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; 8but you, O Lord, are on high forever. 9For behold, your enemies, O Lord, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered.

As we saw yesterday it is good to give thanks to God. Good meaning that it is what we were created for. We are meant to humbly place ourselves below God in gratitude for all that he has done, is doing, and will do. The stupid person cannot accept this. The fool cannot understand their place. Instead we place man at the center of all things. If we can do it, we should do it. Why? Because we are gods. Yes, it might look like prosperity now, like grass after the rain, but one day? Destruction forever.

What the stupid and the fool refuse to see is the eternal. Without faith in Christ destruction is forever. With faith in Christ we reign on high forever with him.

Which is your fate? Scattering, destruction, perishing? Or, seated at the right hand of Jesus on high? In Christ we are no longer enemies of God, but sons and daughters seated at his table. Does this truth change how you see your present realities? It can, and it should?

To live is Christ knows that this phase of life is like grass that withers. It knows that in the end Christ returns and all are judged, not on their prosperity, but on their trust in his gift of grace, on faith in his indwelling life.

You: Are you able to connect your future in Christ to your present realities?

You in Christ: How does knowing that we will reign on high with Christ affect how we live today on Earth?

Christ in you: What is one specific thing in your life that needs to change in light of your future in Christ?

Pray: Jesus, I know that in the end you triumph. I know that my fate is not destruction but deliverance. Keep me from any foolish pride in my own prosperity as I trust in my place in Heaven with you. Amen.
