Proverbs 16:24. Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
Did you know that honey never goes bad? That’s right, honey can sit on the shelf for thousands of years and you can still eat it. In fact, archaeologists have found honey from ancient Egypt in King Tut’s tomb that was still edible.
It’s no wonder that Solomon compares our words to honey. When we say gracious things those words can sit inside a person’s soul forever. Good and gracious words never go bad, just like honey. They are sweet to the soul first and then also to the body.
Encouraging words can heal anxiety.
Kind words can heal sadness.
Calm words can heal anger.
True words can heal foolishness.
Timely words can heal impulsivity.
Loving words can heal depression.
Never forget how powerful your words are. As this proverb says, our words can impact the entire person, body, soul, and spirit.
Every word of Christ should be honey to our souls. He has spoken his words of blessing over us and changed us body, soul, and spirit. By the blessing of Christ in us we are forever changed into his own likeness. Now his words are our words and our words can be his words. When we speak from faith and love we are speaking the very words of Christ himself to others. His life-altering blessing.
From Christ in us we can speak words of life. Words that impart grace to the hearer. Words that will last forever, like honey. Words that sweeten the soul and heal the body.
You: Do your words bring sweetness to the soul?
You in Christ: In Christ you have every blessing from God. How does this truth allow you to bless others with your words?
Christ in you: What words would Jesus say to others today? Say those words.
Pray: Father, help me to always say gracious words, sweet words. I know I can because your words are in my heart. Amen.
