TLIC Psalms. May 29. Who Daily Bears Us Up.

Read Psalm 68:19-23.  19Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. 20Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death. 21But God will strike the heads of his enemies, the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways. 22The Lord said, “I will bring them back from Bashan, I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, 23that you may strike your feet in their blood, that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe.”

God has never been a “one and done” God. There is no room for deism’s “hands off” approach in the psalms. David’s God is active day to day in his salvation. Whether it was striking the enemy, guiding through the mountains and the seas, or the judgment of battle, God was actively winning salvation for his people.

Union with Christ allows the Christian, like David, to trust the daily burden bearing of our savior. Our salvation is not “one and done” any more than Israel’s was. Christ is saving us day by day as we return to his grace and kindness over and over again.

Hebrews 7:25. He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Daily he intercedes for us. Daily he bolsters our faith. Daily he dispenses new morning mercies. Daily he applies the power of his sacrifice to our hearts. Daily he restores us, protects us, strengthens us, purifies us, and loves us.

Therefore, daily we draw near to him. Daily we return to our savior. Daily we depend on his kindness. Daily we repent. Daily we follow. Daily we trust that to live is Christ.

You: Is your faith a daily faith? Or is it “one and done?”

You in Christ: We are saved forever and we are being saved each and every day. How does our union with Christ make it possible for both of these to be true at the same time?

Christ in you: How can you live out your union with Christ on a daily basis?

Pray: Father, I need you today and every day. You daily bear me up. May I trust you every day that I live. Amen.
