TLIC Psalms. May 27. God Shall Arise.

Read Psalm 68:1-6.  1God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him! 2As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God! 3But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy! 4Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the Lord; exult before him! 5Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. 6God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Like the wind, we cannot see God, but we can see the effects of God – the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1). To prove the unseen, God sent his son, Jesus, into the world as a man incarnate. The incarnate Christ made the faith of Psalm 68 visible.

God arose from his throne in Heaven and took on flesh.

He drove away the demonic enemies of God, scattering them into the sea.

He rode the desert path into Jerusalem as people praised his name.

Christ fathered the fatherless and protected the widow, and promised to build a home for those who would lose everything in following him.

Now the ascended Christ is invisible again. But like the wind, the Spirit of Christ has rushed into our hearts making the invisible Jesus visible on earth. God has arisen! Our enemies are defeated. The righteous in Christ are glad. We rejoice. We exult. We father the fatherless and care for the widow (James 1:27). We welcome the lonely into the family of God (Rom. 15:7). We live as God’s holy habitation (2 Cor. 6:16).

To live is Christ means God is alive and well on Earth. In us. In our faith and in our deeds.

You: In what ways do you struggle to trust what you cannot see?

You in Christ: How does the Spirit of Christ in you make God visible?

Christ in you: As Christians we make God visible on Earth. How might this perspective change how you approach life?

Pray: Jesus, you stood up for me and defeated all my enemies that would seek to condemn me. Fill me with praise and power to do your righteous deeds on earth today. Amen.
