TLIC Psalms. March 28. Delight in Me.

Read Psalm 41:9-13. ⁹Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. ¹⁰But you, O Lord, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them! ¹¹By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. ¹²But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever. ¹³Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen.

Putting these words into the mouth of Jesus is not difficult, especially since Jesus quoted verse nine concerning Judas at the Last Supper. But Judas’ betrayal is not the only fulfillment of Psalm 41 in Christ’s life, thank God. Raise me up, delight in me, uphold me, and set me in your presence forever all find their realization in the resurrection of Christ, and by our union with Christ, in us.  

Raise me up – Just as Christ has been raised from the dead so too will YOU be raised to everlasting life in him.

Delight in me – Just as the Father delights in the Son, so too he delights in YOU, his child, his treasure, his prize, his glory, his inheritance.

You have upheld me – Just as the Father held tightly to the son, so too he will never let YOU go. 

Set me in your presence forever – Just as Jesus has been exalted on high, so also the Father has placed YOU beside him in the heavenly places.

To live is Christ means his future is ours. His triumph is ours. His blessing is ours. His eternity is ours. Ours to share from everlasting to everlasting. And when we trust completely in this shared future with Christ we can then turn repayment of our betrayers over to him alone, knowing that his vengeance over our enemies allows for our forgiveness of the same.

You: Look at verse 9. In what ways have you recently “lifted your heel” to Jesus and betrayed him with your faithlessness?

You in Christ: Do you believe that God delights in you?Why or why not?

Christ in you: How does knowing God delights in us allow us to forgive like Christ has forgiven us?

Pray: Father, let your delight in me in Christ continue to slowly change my heart until I am with you in your presence forever. Amen.
