TLIC Psalms. January 2. His Anointed.

Read Psalm 2:1-4. 1Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.

Psalm 1 introduced us to the blessed man.

Psalm 2 introduces us to the anointed Lord of the nations.

And they’re both the same person.

The blessed man’s obedience, steadfastness, fruitfulness, and righteousness will qualify him to be the eternally reigning king of the universe. The blessed man is the laughing lord of Heaven. He mocks those who plot against him, holding them in derision.

Where are we in Psalm 2:1-4?

We are the ones plotting against the bonds of Jesus. We are the ones resisting the reign of Christ. How much of our daily life is actually lived in submission to him? How much time do we spend justifying our choices that rage against the lordship of Christ? How many of us that claim Christ have also bought into the world’s lie that freedom is its own ultimate reward?

Today let’s ask the question the psalmist asks: Why? Why do we quietly rage? Why do we plot in vain? Why do we resist the loving lordship of God and his Anointed One? Why do we seek to obtusely break free from the command of Christ to love, forgive, serve, and disciple others? Why?

To live is Christ is to live in the freedom of the bondage of Jesus and his love.

In Christ: The ruler of the universe represents you in Heaven. How does this bring both humility and confidence to your heart?

Christ in you: What part of your life needs to be submitted to the authority of Christ?

Prayer: Jesus, I don’t want to rage against you and your rule over my life anymore. I submit to you and your glory. Amen.
