Read Psalm 109:30-31 30With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise him in the midst of the throng. 31For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.
In verse six the accuser stood at the right hand of his victim ready to condemn. Here the Lord stands at the right hand of the needy one, ready to save.
What if your eternity were to be decided in God’s cosmic courtroom with Satan the prosecution ready to bring accusation after accusation against you? Who would he call as witnesses against you? What charges would he bring? What character flaws and moral lapses would he point out? What evidence of your rebellion against God would he exhibit?
There’s a scene like this found in Zechariah chapter three. Joshua, the High Priest, standing before God covered in feces. Filthy. Disgusting. Shameful. Satan stands to the right accusing him before God. But then the Angel of the Lord, Jesus himself, tells the angels to take the filthy clothes off of Joshua, wash him clean, clothe him in pure vestments, all while rebuking Satan.
This isn’t just a prophetic vision of one man named Joshua. It is the vision of our life in Christ. Satan our accuser has been rebuked, and the Lord Jesus stands at our right hand declaring who and whose we are. We are his. We are God’s. We are free from all accusations and all condemnation.
In Christ we are cleansed, clothed, and not condemned.
To live is Christ is to embrace this position in the courtroom of heaven. The trial is over. The verdict has been rendered – not guilty!
Prayer. Jesus, you are my defense attorney. You are my advocate, my intercessor. Let me fire the internal lawyer in my mind and trust in your verdict instead. Amen.
