TLIC Psalms. September 27. None Who Stumbled.

Read Psalm 105:37-42. 37Then he brought out Israel with silver and gold, and there was none among his tribes who stumbled. 38Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it. 39He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night. 40They asked, and he brought quail, and gave them bread from heaven in abundance. 41He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river. 42For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant.

In the days following the Red Sea crossing God gave his people everything they needed. Silver and gold from the Egyptians would be used build his glorious Tabernacle. He personally guided them by day and by night with cloud and fire. He fed them in abundance. He gave them gushing water. God does nothing for his people half-heartedly.

All of these provision would point to the full-hearted provision of Christ. As Jude will say, Jesus himself was the cloud covering that led his people out of Egypt. As Paul will say, Jesus is the rock that was struck gushing its life giving water. And it is not difficult to see Jesus on the gold laden mercy seat hidden within the inner sanctum of the Tabernacle. All God’s promises find their “Yes” in Christ.

To live is Christ places us firmly within every promise of God. The promise of a home. The promise of blessing. The promise of no condemnation. The promise of his presence. The promise of his preservation. Like Israel before us, not a single foot will stumble on our way to glory.

Jude 24-25. 24Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
