Read Psalm 91:14-16. 14“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 6With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
In these last three verses God speaks, answering the psalmist’s prayer. For the one who loves God and knows his name, eight promises are made. 1) I will deliver him. 2) I will protect him. 3) I will answer him. 4) I will be with him in trouble. 5) I will rescue him. 6) I will honor him. 7) I will satisfy him. 8) I will show him my salvation.
Each a promise made TO Christ. Each a promise made to us IN Christ. Promises that unfold as we pass from death into eternal life. Beginning with our deliverance from sin in Christ, all the way home to the satisfying and saving presence of Christ.
Romans 8:18. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Which of these promises do you need today? Which one will you claim? Maybe all of them?
To live is Christ is to be full of the love of God. Love poured into us by the Holy Spirit as we trust in him. Love that will hold us fast, and love that allows us to hold fast to Christ and his promises. Promises that can stabilize the most wave tossed life.
Prayer. Jesus, I claim these promises today one by one. I count these as my blessings. I consider them greater than any suffering I may face. Amen.
