TLIC Psalms. June 14. Long May He Live.

Read Psalm 72:15-20.  15Long may he live; may gold of Sheba be given to him! May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all the day! 16May there be abundance of grain in the land; on the tops of the mountains may it wave; may its fruit be like Lebanon; and may people blossom in the cities like the grass of the field! 17May his name endure forever, his fame continue as long as the sun! May people be blessed in him, all nations call him blessed! 18Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. 19Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen! 20The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.

Endless and abundant blessings are prayed for the son of Solomon. May the king who brings flourishing himself flourish. Wealth. Produce. Fame. Honor. Glory. Happiness. However, no son of Solomon would ever fully experience what is envisioned here. Even the best of kings would fall far short of worldwide blessing and glory.

Christ alone is both the blessed king and the blessing God of Israel. Jesus is our God-King who blesses and is blessed. He alone does wondrous things. He alone makes crops grow on mountain tops, and cities thrive like grass in a field. May people be blessed in him.

In him.

That is what we are. We are in Christ. In the king. Inside his domain. Established inside his forever reign. Living in his abundant life.

To live is Christ is to happily cede over all authority and control of our lives to the King of Glory until all the earth is brought under his throne of love and grace.

Ephesians 1:22-23. 22And [God] put all things under [Christ’s] feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Prayer. Jesus, I don’t always want to let you rule my life, but I know that you alone can transform all things by your rule and authority, including my heart. Amen.
