If “to live is Christ,” then to live is to live the crucified life. A life made possible by our death with Jesus that has ended all striving, all earning, and all performing. And when all of that SELF is stripped away, now you can truly find your life in losing it.
“To live is Christ” is learning to be Christ’s treasure, and then learning to treasure Christ in that same way. It is living in the understanding that God gave up everything for you and for me. Even his own life. It is seeing that God is obsessed with you, and would go to any lengths to have you. Living for you. Dying for you. And even living in you. Forever securing his treasure as his own.
“To live is Christ” is to be under the care of the Good Samaritan. Just as the Good Samaritan joined his life to this beaten man, caring for him, raising him up, loving him unconditionally without expectation or demand, Jesus Christ has done the same for us by giving us his indwelling life.
“To live is Christ” offers us the power of true change. The power of the Stronger Man, Jesus Christ, making his home in our hearts, transforming us by his true love and real grace. Change that comes from a pure heart of dependence, rather than from demonic self-righteous pride.
“To live is Christ” is the rest and ease of being yoked to Jesus and his life. A yoke that brings us into the love of the Trinity where everything our heart needs is provided by the indwelling life of our gentle Savior. Ahhhhhhh.
“To live is Christ” is to feast on the Bread of Life. The life of Jesus poured out and broken for us on the cross. The complete and eternal work of God for us, and now in us, by the indwelling life of Christ.
