TLIC Psalms. June 26. He Broke the Flashing Arrows.

Read Psalm 76:1-6.  1In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. 2His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. 3There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. 4Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. 5The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. 6At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned.

It appears that Asaph, the psalmist, is recalling a single day in the history of Judah. Quite possibly the day when the angel of the Lord destroyed the Assyrian armies that surrounded Jerusalem (Isaiah 37:33-37). Despite their superior technology, size, and position, they were stunned by the God who fights for Israel. God the Son.

The church can say no less than Asaph. Oh how God has fought for us and has restrained the enemies of his church, whether we’ve recognized it or not. Oh how God has protected his abode, his dwelling place on spiritual Mount Zion. Oh how God breaks the flashing arrows of Satan aimed at our hearts. Arrows of doubt, anxiety, discouragement, accusation, shame.

How aware are you of God’s protection over you? Not only physically, but more importantly, the spiritual protection and preservation that he offers in Christ?

Christian, no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Why? Because our weapons are not of the flesh, but mighty through God, to the pulling down of strongholds. Satan’s doom is sure, and to live is Christ is guaranteed victory. So take courage. Live free from fear. And bask in the glory of your warrior King Jesus.

You: To what degree is your life controlled by worry, doubt and fear?

You in Christ: God has won the victory for you fully in Christ. How does this truth allow you to live free from fear today?

Christ in you: How might today look different if you trusted fully in Christ’s protection over you?

Pray: Jesus, you have already won the battle that I’m fighting. Victory is sure. Heaven is secured. Help me to believe this more today than ever before. Amen.
